Scoprire un luogo e trovarne infiniti. Questo è quello che si percepisce entrando nella wunderkammer personale di Manuel Menini. Alto, sorridente e con una personalità d’altri tempi, egli è un collezionista e venditore appassionato di bijoux d’epoca, in particolare di quelli che fanno riferimento al periodo georgiano. Da questa vocazione e dai tanti viaggi esplorativi in mercatini e negozi di antiquariato, è nato Vincent Vintage Bijoux in via Spallanzani 11 a Milano, dove mi accoglie per questa intervista.
Manuel, come mai hai scelto il nome “Vincent” per il tuo negozio?
- Per due motivi: il primo è che volevo un nome di persona che non fosse il mio e, il secondo, è un legame particolare che sento di avere con Vincent Van Gogh. Ah, e poi ha molta assonanza con la parola “vincente”. -
Come hai scovato questo spazio?
- Premetto che ho sempre provato voluttà per queste creazioni e che, quindi, l’idea di aprire uno spazio dove potessi sì venderle ma anche spiegarle ai visitatori è sempre stato un progetto da rendere, un giorno, realtà. Ma, in ogni caso, non è mai arrivato il momento giusto. Se non che un giorno, camminando qui, in zona Porta Venezia, con una carissima amica scopro che questo negozio lo stavano affittando. Il tempo di un frullato e avevo deciso di rendere concreto il mio sogno. -
Facciamo un passo indietro. Quanto ha influito il tuo passato con questa tua passione?
- Sono originario di Genova. Lì ho studiato al Liceo Artistico e all’Accademia di Belle Arti. Sono quindi sempre stato all’interno di un ambiente creativo e stimolante. In seguito mi sono trasferito a Milano dove ho iniziato a muovermi nel mondo della moda, prima con uno stage presso un importante azienda del settore e poi come stylist. Nonostante questo però, ho sempre seguito e coltivato parallelamente la mia ricerca per il bijoux d’epoca. -
Quali sono le città o i paesi che ti danno più soddisfazioni quando vai in esplorazione?
- Colonia in Germania è la città dove trovo spesso pezzi che in altri luoghi non è possibile trovare. Così come la Spagna che ha della bellissima gioielleria messicana degli anni cinquanta. E poi c’è la Costa Azzura e, certamente, l’Italia. -
E il luogo in cui è avvenuta la folgorazione?
- Tutto è nato da un viaggio con il liceo in Spagna: lì ho conosciuto i pezzi di René Lalique (designer francese di fine ‘800, ndr). -
Quali sono i gioielli del negozio che ami di più?
- Sono molto legato alla spilla scozzese, sia a livello personale sia perché sono così rare… Anche la spilla con i turchesi trovo sia bellissima. Un altro che trovo molto particolare e affascinante è la “mano figa”: rappresenta l’organo femminile ed è uno dei più antichi talismani contro il malocchio della storia. È arrivata a noi intorno al sedicesimo secolo dai paesi dell’America del Sud. -
Discover a place and find endless of them. This is what you feel entering the personal Manuel Menini’s wunderkammer. Tall, smiling and with a personality of yesteryear, he is a passionate vintage bijoux collector and seller, especially those that refer to the Georgian period. Is from these attributes and the many exploratory trips to flea markets and antique shops, that was born Vincent Vintage Bijoux in Via Spallanzani 11 in Milan, where he greets me for this interview.
Manuel, why did you choose the name "Vincent" for your store?
- For two reasons: the first is that I wanted a personal name that was not mine and, the second, is referred to a special bond that I have with Vincent Van Gogh. Oh, and because it had a lot of similarity with the word "winner ".-
How did you find this space?
- I state that I have always felt pleasure for these creations and that, therefore, the idea of opening a space where I could yes sell them but also explain their story to visitors has always been a project to make, one day, actually. But, in any case, was never the right time. Until one day, walking here, near Porta Venezia, with a very dear friend, I discover that this store was on rent. The time for a shake and I had decided to make concrete my dream.
Let's step back. How important was your past regard your passion?
- I am from Genoa. There I studied at the Art School and the Academy of Fine Arts. Therefore I was always within a creative and stimulating environment. Later I moved to Milan where I started to move in the fashion world, first with an internship in a major company in the industry and then as a stylist. Despite this, however, I have always followed and grown in parallel my research for vintage bijoux. -
What are the cities or countries that give you more satisfaction when you go exploring?
- Cologne in Germany is the city where I often find pieces that in other places can not be found. As well as Spain, which has a beautiful Mexican jewelry from the fifties. And then there's the French Riviera and, certainly, Italy.-
And the place where you had love at first sight with vintage bijoux?
- Everything was born from a trip with high school in Spain: there I met some pieces by René Lalique (French designer of the end '800, ed).-
What are the jewels of the store that you love the most?
- I am very attached to the Scottish brooch, both personally and because they are so rare ... Even the brooch with turquoise: I find it beautiful. Another one that I find very unique and fascinating is the “Fig Sign”: it represent the female organ and is one of the most ancient talismans against the evil eye of history. It came to us around the sixteenth century by the countries of South America. -
