Sono molte le rassegne fotografiche di livello in Europa. E mai come oggi quest’arte è diventata importante per cogliere lo zeitgeist precario dei nostri tempi. Ecco allora che nascono di frequente nuovi modi per divulgare le immagini, e uno di questi è la creazione di un festival. È ciò che ha pensato anche la città di Brescia che a marzo 2017 inaugurare la prima edizione del Brescia Photo Festival.
Internazionalità è la parola centrale dell’evento, che si articolerà per il Museo di Santa Giulia e negli spazi dell’ex-tribunale, oggi MO.CA, e per le vie e le gallerie della città lombarda, tra le persone e i luoghi di ogni giorno. Ed è infatti “People” il tema scelto per inaugurare la kermesse. Il festival fotografico vedrà tra gli eventi la prima mondiale di “Leggere” del fotografo Steve McCurry. Protagonisti saranno anche artisti italiani come Caio Maio Garrubba e Uliano Lucas. Al Brescia Photo Festival si terranno altri due momenti importanti: la prima edizione del Premio Mario Dondero dedicato alle giovani promesse under 35, i quali hanno svolto per l’occasione lavori sul tema sociale “dalla parte dell’uomo”. Saranno poi celebrati i settant’anni dell’agenzia di foto-giornalismo Magnum Photo. Per quest’ultima hanno collaborato anche Camera - Centro Italiano della Fotografia di Torino e il Museo del Violino di Cremona.
“Brescia – spiega Luigi Maria Di Corato, Direttore di Brescia Musei - ha sempre avuto un forte legame con la fotografia, prova ne sono le molteplici iniziative pubbliche e private in atto, oltre che una concentrazione di centri di alta formazione, associazioni, spazi espositivi, gallerie, collezionisti e professionisti di valore nazionale ed internazionale. Basti pensare che per un decennio si è tenuta a Brescia, su iniziativa privata, una biennale internazionale di fotografia che ha portato in città alcune dei principali fotografi da tutto il mondo”.
Un’occasione per la città, per i giovani e soprattutto un atto di coraggio in un paese, l’Italia, abituato a riciclarsi anziché rinnovarsi. A prescindere dall’esito della prima edizione, Brescia Photo Festival ha compreso come la fase delicata della nostra storia, l’esprit du temps del nostro mondo, sia esprimibile (solo) attraverso la macchina fotografica. Un mezzo per firmare un istante.
La prima edizione del Brescia Photo Festival si terrà dal 7 al 12 marzo 2017.
There are many high profile photographic exhibitions in Europe. And never like today this art has become important to grasp the precarious zeitgeist of our times. Starring will also Italian artists such as Caio Maio Garrubba and Uliano Lucas. At Brescia Photo Festival will be held two important events: the first edition of the Premio Mario Dondero dedicated to under 35 promises, which they have done for the occasion works on social themes "from the man's hand." Then will be celebrated seventy years of photojournalism agency Magnum Photo. For the latter also collaborated Camera - Italian Center of Photography in Turin and the Cremona’s Museo del Violino.

An opportunity for the city, for young people, especially an act of courage in a country, Italy, used to recycle rather than innovate. Regardless of the outcome of the first edition, Brescia Photo Festival has been aware that the difficult period of our history, the esprit du temps of our world, is expressed (only) through the camera. A means to sign an instant.
The first edition of Brescia Photo Festival is held from 7 to 12 March 2017.
