Lusso, voluttà, un intenso carattere olfattivo. Sono queste le prime relazioni che associamo quando pensiamo alla profumeria artistica e a un materiale, un tessuto, come la pelle. Non a caso, quest’ultimo elemento viene di sovente inserito tra le note caratteristiche di un profumo.
L’evento Unscent Glove Lovers, organizzato da Intertrade Group, presso la Avery Perfume Gallery fino a fine Aprile, all’interno del luxury store Excelsior a Milano, propone un intreccio conosciuto probabilmente solo dai pochi feticisti di essenze particolari o degli accessori in pelle. In particolare i guanti, come quelli ospitati nella galleria e disegnati da Thomasine Barnekow, sarta d’alta moda svedese che da dieci anni sviluppa e rinnova l’antica arte artigianale relativa alla creazione del guanto.
Luxury, voluptuousness, an intense olfactory character. These are the first matches that we associate when we think of the artistic perfumery and a material, a tissue, such as leather. Not surprisingly, the latter element is of often inserted between the known characteristics of a perfume.
The event Unscent Glove Lovers, organized by Intertrade Group, at the Avery Perfume Gallery till the end of April, inside the luxury store Excelsior in Milan, offers a plot probably known only to a few fetishists of particular essences or leather accessories. In particular gloves, such as those hosted in the gallery and designed by Thomasine Barnekow, swedish high fashion seamstress who for ten years develops and renews the ancient crafts on the glove’s creation.

La storia che lega un accessorio come il guanto e la profumeria d’autore risale al Medio Evo. In particolare, in una città nota ai più oggi solo per essere l’archetipo dell’arte profumiera: Grasse, nella Francia del sud. In quel periodo, essa fu però luogo di concia delle pelli. Chiunque sia stato in una conceria - come quella a Fès in Marocco in cui vengono offerte foglie di menta per proteggere il proprio naso -, conosce bene l’odore acre che emana. Gallimard, un conciatore del posto, per risolvere il problema, ebbe l’idea di produrre guanti in pelle profumati e ne offrì un paio a Caterina de’ Medici, che rimase incantata dal suo dono. Il concetto si diffuse poi in tutta la corte e nell’alta società, per cui il XVII secolo si configurò come il periodo d’oro per i profumieri che lavoravano con i guanti. Il 1656 fu l’anno della fondazione della Maîtres Parfumeurs et Gantiers, una corporazione di produttori di guanti e profumi, che rappresenta la prima importante associazioni di categoria dedicate ai profumi e che sicuramente contribuì, con la diffusione dei guanti profumati, alla diffusione dei profumi. La popolarità dei guanti profumati proseguì durante tutto il regno di Luigi XIV e Luigi XV, periodo in cui i produttori di guanti scoprirono il modo di profumare la pelle con fragranze diverse durante il processo di concia.
The story that binds an accessory like the glove and artistic perfumery dates back to the Middle Ages. In particular, in a town known by many today only for being the archetypal of artistic perfumery: Grasse, in southern France. At that time, however, it was a place of tanning. Anyone who has been in a tannery - like the one in Fès in Morocco where mint leaves are offered to protect your nose -, knows the acrid odor emanating. Gallimard, a tanner of the place, to solve the problem, had the idea of producing scented leather gloves and offered a pair to Caterina de’ Medici, who was enchanted by his gift. The concept is then spread across the court and in high society, so the XVII century took the form of a golden age for the perfumers who worked with gloves. The 1656 was the year of the founding of the Maîtres Parfumeurs et Gantiers, a guild of manufacturers of gloves and perfumes, which represents the first major associations dedicated to perfumes and that certainly contributed, with the diffusion of perfumed gloves, to the diffusion of perfumes. The popularity of perfumed gloves continued throughout the reign of Louis XIV and Louis XV period when the glove manufacturers discovered a way to scent the skin with different fragrances during the tanning process.
Un evento interessante così come la fabula che ne fa da sentiero. Un sodalizio inedito, oggi diventato contemporaneo grazie a questa esposizione, e testimoniato dalle parole di Barnekow: - Sono entusiasta di collaborare con Intertrade Group e sviluppare l’affascinante rapporto tra il mondo dei guanti artistici e quello dell’alta profumeria. La passione contagiosa di (Celso) Fadelli (fondatore del gruppo nel 1989, ndr) per la profumeria, per la storia e per l’estetica del design, si sposa perfettamente con gli ideali che cerco di perseguire quando disegno e produco guanti in pezzi unici -.
