Che Milano sia la capitale della moda, del design e tra poco anche del libro è risaputo. Ma quali sono le motivazioni che mettono d’accordo su questo aspetto (quasi) tutti gli analisti? Studiando le esposizioni che si posso e si stanno già vivendo durante questa Milano Design Week 2017, sia presso la Fiera di Rho dove si tiene il salone tradizionale che quella in città ovvero il Fuori Salone, non è difficile capire il perché. Innanzitutto proprio questi sei giorni, dal 4 al 9 aprile, sono forse quelli che - ancora di più che durante la settimana della moda -, attirano professionisti e appassionati da tutto il mondo. Questi arrivi, oltre a innalzare gli income del comune e dei commercianti, hanno implicitamente provveduto a innescare in pochi anni un clima di rifacimento urbano di tutto rispetto, basti pensare al quartiere Isola e quello rinnovato di Lambrate.
Ma non sono solo gli acquirenti o i visitatori a fare di Milano durante il salone la città per antonomasia. Senza entrare negli archivi della storia del design che parla già da sola e che, a seconda della corrente o dell’artista dell’epoca in voga oggi, viene in qualche modo recuperata, sono proprio gli autori che hanno e prestano la loro matita a importanti realtà industriali italiane, a dare al Salone la cifra estetica che negli anni l’ha reso un save the date sull’agenda dei più. Da Achille Castiglioni a Zaga Hadid, da Franco Albini a Ernesto Gismondi fino alla contemporanea Patricia Urquiola, questi sono solo alcuni dei nomi che hanno realizzato opere passate, appunto, alla storia per aziende come Artemide, Cassina e molte altre.
The fact that Milan is the capital of fashion, design and soon also of the book fair is known. But what are the reasons that (almost) all the analysts agree on this issue? By studying the exhibits that you can and you are already experiencing during this Milan Design Week 2017, both at Rho Fiera to the traditional salon in the city or the Fuori Salone, it is not hard to see why. First of all, it is these six days, from 4 to 9 April, are perhaps those who - even more than during the fashion week -, attracting professionals and enthusiasts from around the world. These arrivals, as well as raise the income of the municipality and traders, have implicitly proceeded to ignite in a few years a climate of highly respected urban makeover, just think of the Isola area and the renovated Lambrate.
But not only the buyers or visitors to make Milan during the fair the city par excellence. Without going in the archives of the history of design that already speaks for itself and that, depending on the current artist or era in vogue today, is recovered in some way, it is precisely the authors who lend their pencil and important Italian industrial groups, to give the salon the aesthetic figure that over the years has made a save the date on the agenda. From Achille Castiglioni to Zaha Hadid, From Franco Albini to Ernesto Gismondi until contemporary Patricia Urquiola, these are just some of the names that have made past works, in fact, the story for companies like Artemide, Cassina and others.
Oltre ai maestri, importante spazio viene dato anche ai nuovi progetti e ai singoli designer, spesso supportati da scuole o realtà autoprodotte, come l’evento organizzato da Source Obstacles & Solutions presso il locale Frida all’interno dell’Isola Design District. La mostra è curata da Valia Barriello e si concentra su alcuni aspetti nascosti dell'autoproduzione, in particolare sugli ostacoli, sul loro superamento e su un carattere insito nel buon progettista, ovvero l’ostinazione. Ecco perché accanto a ogni opere realizzata, il creativo espone anche il simbolo della maggiore difficoltà che ha incontrato durante il processo produttivo. Tra gli artisti presenti, molti sono gli emergenti, come Sebastiano Tonelli, Francesco Perego, Maria Fiocco e Sara Fortino.
Anche Fondazione Stelline in corso Magenta 61 partecipa alla settimana del design, all’interno del centrale distretto delle 5VIE, e si fa luogo di ben tre presentazioni due delle quali con un occhio rivolto alle nuove leve del design. La prima è Essence Exploration, un percorso espositivo in cui l'università cinese Shenzhen Polytechnic mette in mostra le migliori opere dei suoi artisti, a testimonianza di come tradizione locale e modernità possano felicemente convivere. La seconda celebra il 10° anniversario della rivista IFDM (Il Foglio del Mobile) dove verrà presentato il work in progress della mostra 10. A decade of evolution in design che presenterà, dal 15 al 25 giugno 2017 alla Fondazione Stelline quindici arredi icona, di altrettante aziende leader del settore, trasformate in opere d'arte dagli studenti dell’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, sotto la supervisione del Professor Andrea Del Guercio. Dal 4 al 7 aprile la Fondazione ospita My Light Years di Marco Piva, un percorso espositivo che racconta, tramite immagini e prodotti selezionati, il tema della luce come elemento basilare nel lavoro dell'architetto italiano e che si concluderà con la presentazione del libro My Light Years di Marco Piva, edito da Action Group.
Presso la Civica Scuola Interpreti e Traduttori Altiero Spinelli nel Tortona Design District sui Navigli, che per la prima volta aprirà al pubblico, è presente la mostra Design Language, nata con l’obiettivo di raccontare i linguaggi eterogenei utilizzati nel design. Per questo motivo il portfolio degli artisti presenti è ricco: sono cinquanta le realtà selezionate per l’occasione e comprendono sia figure importanti del settore che nuove generazioni. Tra i vari nomi presenti: Alberto Meda, Uniqka dalla Turchia, ed Edgar Flauw dalla Francia.
In addition to the masters, important space is also given to new projects and individual designers, often supported by schools or actually self-produced, as the event organized by Source Obstacles & Solutions at Frida in the Isola Design District. The exhibition is curated by Valia Barriello and focuses on some hidden aspects of selfprofuction, especially on the obstacles, on their passing and on an inherent character in good designer, or stubbornness. That's why next to each work done, the creative also displays the symbol of the greater difficulties encountered during the production process. Among the artists, there are many emerging as Sebastiano Tonelli, Francesco Perego, Maria Fiocco and Sara Fortino.
Even Fondazione Stelline in corso Magenta 61 participates at the design week, in the central district of 5VIE, and places two presentations of three of them with an eye to new design talents. The first is Essence Exploration, an exhibition in which China's Shenzhen Polytechnic University showcases the best works of its artists, demonstrating how local tradition and modernity can coexist happily. Melissa, il brand di calzature realizzate in pvc profumato, partecipa al Fuori Salone con l’installazione MELISSA FEM.IN.INE COLLECTIVE presso la temporary gallery di via Palermo 5 all’interno del Brera Design District. Un’esposizione inedita con due giovani artiste italiane, Chiara Dynys e Francesca Pasquali, dedicata a celebrare la presenza femminile nell’arte.
Nello stesso distretto, per gli amanti del Gruppo Memphis e in particolare di Ettore Sottsass, Studio Irvine ha voluto omaggiare il consorte di Fernanda Pivano con due eventi collaterali: il primo è Ettore Sottsass - The Indian Memory presso la Galleria Jannone in corso Garibaldi 125 e il secondo, a qualche passo di distanza, The Indian Memory - Handcrafting Ettore Sottsass, alla Galleria Carla Sozzani, corso Como 10.
Infine, spostandosi verso il centro, all’interno del quadrilatero in via Santo Spirito 21, Daad Dantone, famoso e prestigioso multibrand store ha inaugurato ieri il Daad Dantone Interiors, sotto la direzione artistica di Pierfrancesco Cravel e Giorgio Dantone, fondatore della boutique. Tra le opere presenti fino al 10 del mese, alcune tra le più interessanti e note degli ultimi anni: le visionarie lampade da terra e da tavolo disegnate da Angelo Lelii per Arredoluce, la poltrona Due Più (1971-2015) di Nanda Vigo, importante artista milanese, cui Palazzo Reale dedica la mostra Codice di avviamento fanta- stico. All’interno sarà possibile ritrovare anche Ettore Sottsass e il suo porta ombrelli in alluminio anodizzato disegnato a metà degli anni 50. Un classico.

In the same district, for lovers of the Memphis Group, and in particular of Ettore Sottsass, Studio Irvine wanted to honor Fernanda Pivano’s husband with two events: the first is Ettore Sottsass - The Indian Memory at Galleria Jannone in corso Garibaldi 125 and the second, a few steps away, Indian Memory - Handcrafting Ettore Sottsass, at the Galleria Carla Sozzani, corso Como 10.
Finally, moving towards the center, in the quadrilatero, in via Santo Spirito 21, Daad Dantone, famous and prestigious multi-brand store opened yesterday the Daad Dantone Interiors, under the artistic direction of Pierfrancesco Cravel and Giorgio Dantone, founder of the boutique. Among the works until the 10th of the month, some of the most interesting and famous of recent years: the visionary floor lamps and table designed by Angelo Lelii for Arredoluce, the chair Due Più (1971-2015) by Nanda Vigo, important Milanese artist, whose Palazzo Reale is dedicating the exhibition Codice di avviamento fanta- stico. Inside you can also find Ettore Sottsass and his umbrella stand in anodized aluminum designed in the mid 50s. A classic.
