Ogni città ha la sua storia e la sua arte e quella di Bologna la si respira ancora oggi per le vie della città, grazie ai grandi Signori che le hanno donato carattere e identità, trasformandola in una grande esempio di bellezza.
Bologna è stata protagonista negli anni Settanta di un’esplosione culturale che ha segnato le generazioni successive. Da sempre è una città contestataria, viva, sanguigna e fiera e si erige verso l’alto con le sue ventidue torri, delle quali le più conosciute sono la Torre Garisenda e quella degli Asinelli, entrambe erette all’inizio del XII secolo. Certo, i 498 gradini per salire in cima a quest’ultima lasciano senza fiato, ma mai come la vista di cui si può godere da lassù.

Il centro di Bologna è Piazza Maggiore, chiusa ad ovest da Palazzo d'Accursio, a sud dal Palazzo del Podestà, con di fronte la facciata incompiuta della Basilica gotica di San Petronio con un portale decorato da bassorilievi di Jacopo della Quercia e lì accanto la statua del Nettuno, frutto della collaborazione tra Zanobio Portigiani, Tommaso Laureti e Giambologna, terminata nel 1566, che dona il nome all’omonima piazza.
L’ho appezzata la sera tardi, illuminata e affollata, onesta e gioiosa, elegante ma anche provinciale, con un misto di eleganza e dolcezza.
Ma è dal complesso marcatamente romanico, misterioso ed affascinante di Santo Stefano che sono stata “rapita”, noto anche come "le Sette Chiese" a causa della sua articolazione in numerose chiese e cappelle collegate da un cortile e da un chiostro. Il nucleo originale risale al VIII secolo su un tempio pagano del II secolo dedicato alla dea egizia Iside, del quale resta un architrave con dedica alla dea, murato all'esterno, e alcune colonne di granito africano.

Ogni città ha la sua musica e per le vie di Bologna non posso che arrendermi a canticchiare la “Bologna, vecchia signora dai fianchi un po’ molli” di Francesco Guccini e farmi cullare dalle strofe pop di Lucio Dalla, che qui nacque e visse e che risuonano così, pacate e malinconiche:
Dormo sull'erba e ho molti amici intorno a me,

dei loro guai, dei loro amori tutto so, sbagliati e no.

Ogni città può essere raccontata e Bologna, che da sempre è sinonimo di cultura, grazie all’ospitalità che l’Alma Mater Studiorum concede a studenti provenienti da tutto il mondo, è ed è stata una culla dove sono sbocciati molti romanzi, scrittori e letterati, primo tra tutti Giosuè Carducci, che qui insegnò letteratura italiana dal 1860 al 1906, incaricato dal Mamiani.
Il Professore Umberto Eco è un assiduo frequentatore delle aule dell’Università e con suo romanzo “Il nome della rosa” è da sempre un grande esempio di un genere, quello del romanzo di formazione, che ha avuto felice seguito in un altro romanzo in cui il protagonista Alex D., diciassettenne, all’inizio degli anni Novanta, è all’ardua ricerca del suo posto nel mondo; Jack Frusciante è uscito dal gruppo, di Enrico Brizzi che all’epoca della pubblicazione era un vent’enne studente bolognese, oggi appartenente al gruppo degli psico-atleti, viaggiatori a piedi.

Ogni città ha il suo profumo e camminando per Bologna non si può che essere investiti, fuori dalle panetterie, da quello del crescente bolognese, un pane arricchito con prosciutto o pancetta che trae origine dalla pasta che cresceva degli impasti fatti dal fornaio nella sua lavorazione quotidiana, dal soffritto del ragù, dal ripieno dei tortellini, piccoli e perfetti, grande esempio di opere d’arte culinaria e nel periodo natalizio dal Certosino, detto anche panspeziale, un dolce arricchito da mandorle, pinoli, cioccolato fondente e canditi.
A Bologna si mangia e ci si rilassa, la domenica a pranzo, nelle piccole osterie con i tavolini al loro ingresso, riversati in strada, che ben si “sposano” con l’indole dei cittadini bolognesi, esuberanti e frizzanti, come le bollicine che amano abbinare ad un panino con la mortadella, pronto a catturare ogni palato.
