- Let's say yes, I just had a 1.15-carat tanzanite boxed into a frame of my Diamond Bar to put on an AC Auction. It is a new way of selling that I propose on social networks, those who follow me can make offers from the auction base, and the highest bid can buy the jewel designed by me with unique and particular stones. -

Allora parliamo di diamanti: qualche settimana fa ho partecipato alla tua Diamond Bar Experience: quando ti è venuta l’idea?

- L’idea della Diamond Bar mi è venuta parlando con amici che volevano fare la proposta (di matrimonio, ndr). Dopo essersi approcciati al mondo dei diamanti sono rimasti molto scoraggiati. Ho voluto creare un modalità di scelta per farli sentire a loro agio e allo stesso tempo educarli sull'acquisto che stavano per fare. Qualcosa di giovane e fresco e così, ho pensato a cosa sarebbe piaciuto ai miei amici: una chiacchiera informale con qualcuno di competente che potesse guidarli nella scelta con buon gusto ed empatia. -

So let's talk about diamonds: a few weeks ago I took part in your Diamond Bar Experience: when did you get the idea?

- The idea of ​​the Diamond Bar came to me talking to friends who wanted to make the proposal (of marriage, ed). After they approached the world of diamonds they were very discouraged. I wanted to create a way of choosing to make them feel comfortable and at the same time educate them on the purchase they were about to make. Something young and fresh and so, I thought about what my friends would like: an informal chat with someone competent who could guide them in their choice with good taste and empathy. -

Mi dicevi infatti che gli uomini si sentono molto più a loro agio in una situazione del genere, dove possono prendersi il tempo e parlare con te. Qual è l’anello di fidanzamento che ricordi particolarmente?

- Non ne ho uno in particolare che ricordo di più degli altri, ma ho senz'altro un legame speciale con gli anelli che realizzo per le mie amiche. Conosco i fidanzati quindi il percorso diventa più personale, e ho il piacere di rivedere l'anello che realizziamo nel tempo. -

In fact, you told me that men feel much more comfortable in a situation like this, where they can take their time and talk to you. What is the engagement ring that you particularly remember?

- I don't have one in particular that I remember more than the others, but I certainly have a special bond with the rings I make for my friends. I know engaged couples so the path becomes more personal, and I have the pleasure of seeing the ring we make over time. -

Il tuo progetto non riguarda solo anelli di fidanzamento. Spazia dalla personalizzazione alla realizzazione, sempre artigianale, di altri gioielli. Come adatti le necessità pratiche ai moti creativi?

- Per questo trovo che gli studi che ho fatto siano essenziali. La realizzazione di un oggetto di alta gioielleria è l'insieme di una profonda conoscenza delle pietre e i suoi tagli, un perfetto connubio tra la mia esperienza come orafa per avere una consapevolezza di cosa è realizzabile, e nozioni di design per dare sfogo alla creatività. L'insieme di questi skill può dare vita a qualsiasi genere o categoria di gioiello, unendo la praticità, la durabilità allo stesso aspetto estetico. -

Your project isn't just about engagement rings. It ranges from customization to creation, always handcrafted, of other jewels. How do you adapt practical needs to creative impulses?

- This is why I find that the studies I have done are essential. The creation of an high jewelery object is the combination of a deep knowledge of stones and its cuts, a perfect combination of my experience as a goldsmith to have an awareness of what is achievable, and notions of design to give vent to creativity. The set of these skills can give life to any kind or category of jewel, combining practicality, durability with the same aesthetic aspect. -

Credi sia anche perché hai studiato all’American School di Milano che riesci a essere così versatile?

- Penso che le scuole che ho frequentato mi abbiano sicuramente aperto la mente a diverse persone, culture, lingue, usanze. Ma la versatilità è anche un'espressione del proprio carattere e di tutte le sue sfaccettature. Uso il paragone delle scarpe: alcune donne amano un classico décolleté tutti i giorni, altre spaziano dalle sneakers, al tacco 10, agli anfibi, alle ballerine, ai camperos. -

Do you think it is also because you studied at the American School in Milano that you are able to be so versatile?

- I think that the schools I attended have certainly opened my mind to different people, cultures, languages, customs. But versatility is also an expression of one's character and all its facets. I use the comparison of shoes: some women love a classic décolleté every day, others range from sneakers, to heel 10, to amphibians, to ballet flats, to camperos. -

Tua madre è californiana: noti delle differenze di gusto delle donne americane rispetto a quelle italiane?

- Moltissimo, a volte faccio fatica a rimuovere l'influenza culturale americana per cercare di capire il mio pubblico italiano: sono due mondi molto diversi. In California, più di altri stati Americani, si cerca il gioiello che meglio rappresenti la propria individualità, a prescindere dai trend del momento. Più il designer è piccolo, sconosciuto e particolare, più le donne si sentono originali e questo è topic di chiacchiera con le amiche. -

Your mother is from California: do you notice any differences in taste of american women compared to italian ones?

- Very much, sometimes I find it hard to remove the american cultural influence to try to understand my italian audience: they are two very different worlds. In California, more than other American states, people are looking for the jewel that best represents their individuality, regardless of the trends of the moment. The more the designer is small, unknown and particular, the more women feel original and this is a topic of chatting with friends. -

Anche per quanto riguarda la scelta degli anelli di fidanzamento?

- In America hanno già esplorato tutte le mode, i diamanti taglio fancy, colori fancy, pietre colorate, two-stone (molto attuale), tagli antichi, addirittura diamanti salt-and-pepper. Per riprendere il discorso, io sono sempre alla ricerca di qualcosa che stupisca e che sia fuori dall'ordinario. -

Even regarding the choice of engagement rings?

- In America they have already explored all trends, fancy-cut diamonds, fancy colors, colored stones, two-stone (very current), antique cuts, even salt-and-pepper diamonds. To resume the discussion, I am always looking for something that amazes and that is out of the ordinary. -

Perché come tesi di laurea hai proposto un business plan per abiti da sposa custom-made?

- All’università ero molto appassionata di haute couture. Ho visto un gap nel mercato bridal e mi piaceva l'idea di offrire un made-to-order anziché avere un catalogo di abiti che cambiava con le stagioni come il prêt-à-porter. -

Why did you propose a thesis for custom-made wedding dresses as a thesis?

- At university I was very passionate about haute couture. I saw a gap in the bridal market and I liked the idea of ​​offering a made-to-order rather than having a catalog of clothes that changed with the seasons like prêt-à-porter. -

- Al giorno d'oggi, con tutte le informazioni a cui si arriva tramite internet e i social media, trovo che sarebbe un comportamento da negligenti non fare un passo in più per scoprire la provenienza dei materiali che reperiamo e che poi indossiamo tutti i giorni. -

Diamonds that adhere to the Kimberly Process, work ethics, non-toxic metals: sustainability above all?

- Nowadays, with all the information that is reached through the internet and social media, I find that it would be negligent behavior not to take an extra step to discover the provenance of the materials we find and then wear every day. -

Il gioiello più bello?

- Io lego la bellezza di un gioiello al sentimento che c'è dietro. Il significato è insostituibile. Personalmente, i gioielli più belli sono quelli che mi sono stati regalati da mio marito o dalla mia famiglia. Per questo spero tanto di poter disegnare gioielli altrettanto importanti per altre persone che, come me, ricorderanno per sempre il momento che quelle creazioni rappresentano. -

The most beautiful jewel?

- I link the beauty of a jewel to the feeling behind it. Meaning is irreplaceable. Personally, the most beautiful jewels are the ones that have been given to me by my husband or my family. This is why I really hope to be able to design equally important jewels for other people who, like me, will always remember the moment that those creations represent. -
