To understand and "feel" Alessandro Pegoraro's photographs, we must do a work of contemplation. They seem to open our eyes, focusing on a reality that we all know well, but that we have perhaps forgotten to observe carefully, going beyond the visible, in an intimate and evocative dimension. His shots allow you to look beyond the horizon and the landscape itself, become places of the soul, making the invisible visible.
Trovo i tuoi scatti molto chiari, netti ma anche evocativi e poetici. Cosa ne pensi?
- Per me sono soprattutto un ricordo. Sono un “qui ed ora” di un pezzo di vita vissuta. Poche aspettative, molta intuizione. Non mi piace fare troppi calcoli quando si parla di fotografia, spesso le cose che riescono meglio sono quelle uscite di getto. -
I find your shots very clear, clear but also evocative and poetic. What do you think about it?
- For me they are above all a memory. I am a "here and now" of a piece of life lived. Few expectations, a lot of intuition. I don't like doing too many calculations when it comes to photography, often the things that are best are those out of the blue. -
Cosa ti ispira maggiormente?
- Domanda difficilissima. La regola a cui faccio più spesso riferimento è quella dell’essenziale. Impegnarsi in un costante esercizio di semplificazione è il modo migliore per mettere a fuoco. Poi di base cerco sempre di cercare nuovi stimoli e di lasciarmi contaminare dagli ambiti più diversi: le idee di un grande inventore, una canzone, le storie delle religioni, la tecnologia o la moda che sposa il nero. -
What inspires you most?
- Very difficult question. The rule I refer to most often is that of the essential. Engaging in a constant simplification exercise is the best way to focus. Then basically I always try to look for new stimuli and let myself be contaminated by the most diverse areas: the ideas of a great inventor, a song, the stories of religions, technology or fashion that marries black. -
Quali sono gli step che portano al progetto finito?
- L’iter è solitamente questo: faccio una analisi approfondita, scavo a fondo nell’identità e nella visione dell’azienda, seguo quindi un’intuizione senza fare calcoli, poi finalmente arrivo a lavorare e ridefinire delle basi solide su cui sviluppare la comunicazione. Un po’ come accade nelle fotografie che scatto. Prima osservo bene il contesto o le persone, mi lascio ispirare all’improvviso, e infine scatto. C’è poi tempo in un secondo momento per rifinire, a mente fredda, i dettagli. -
What are the steps that lead to the finished project?
- The process is usually this: I do a thorough analysis, dig deep into the identity and vision of the company, then follow an intuition without making calculations, then finally I get to work and redefine the solid foundations on which to develop communication. A bit like what happens in the photographs I take. First I look closely at the context or people, I let myself be inspired suddenly, and finally I shoot. Then there is time later to finish the details with a cold mind. -
Cosa significa per te “comunicare”? Quali strumenti utilizzi?
- L’idea di base è quella di passare un messaggio, un pensiero, una informazione per un pubblico. Gli strumenti sono diversi, in base a quello che dobbiamo dire. Può essere una foto o una parola. -
What does "communicating" mean for you? What tools do you use?
- The basic idea is to pass on a message, a thought, an information to an audience. The tools are different, based on what we have to say. It can be a photo or a word. -
Parlaci della tua formazione. Come sei arrivato “qui e ora”?
- Il mio percorso non si può certamente definire una strada lineare, mi piace immaginarlo più come una continua esplorazione. A 16 non riuscivo a stare fermo, avevo voglia di fare più che di stare seduto in un banco. Ho lasciato la scuola e mi sono messo a lavorare. Con le mani soprattutto: carrozziere, idraulico, metalmeccanico, fino a diventare capo officina. Poteva sembrare una strada segnata, ma poi ho scelto una nuova avventura. Ho seguito la passione per lo snowboard e sono arrivato in un negozio di articoli sportivi prima, e in un’azienda di import di snowboard a Trento, poi. Arriva quindi una nuova occasione che mi ha insegnato moltissimo: un lavoro in un’agenzia di viaggi in un ghiacciaio in Francia per l’estate e un lavoro come shaper in uno snowpark a Cervinia per l’inverno. Dopo quattro anni la vita mi porta a casa: per sette anni lavoro come agente nel mondo dell’estetica. Sento che non mi basta e con un socio mi lancio in una nuova avventura: una start up che si occupa di trasformare i furgoni in piccoli camper. Per l’azienda ho seguito tutti gli aspetti del marketing: dalla grafica, al web, allo sviluppo delle immagini, all’e-commerce, allo sviluppo commerciale. In pochi anni l’azienda, partita con pochissimo, prende il volo e si fa riconoscere nel mercato, anche fuori Italia. Poi arriva Lucia, la mia prima figlia. Sento che voglio più tempo per lei, per noi. Esco dall’azienda, non ho un’idea pronta, ma sento che il momento è quello giusto. Ho scelto di coltivare quello in cui credevo di più: la fotografia, il marketing, la comunicazione. Oggi mi metto a fianco delle aziende per costruire insieme un’immagine nuova. È un percorso complesso, fatto di molteplici input da direzioni diverse, di esplorazioni ed osservazioni, un costante di sport, passioni, libri, immagini, design che plasma i miei pensieri in un qui e ora in costante movimento. -
Tell us about your training. How did you get "here and now"?
- My path cannot certainly be defined as a linear road, I like to imagine it more as a continuous exploration. At 16 I couldn't stand still, I wanted to do more than sit in a bench. I left school and went to work. With his hands above all: coachbuilder, plumber, metalworker, until he became a workshop manager. It might have seemed like a marked road, but then I chose a new adventure. I followed my passion for snowboarding and I first came to a sporting goods store, and then to a snowboard import company in Trento, then. Then comes a new opportunity that has taught me a lot: a job in a travel agency in a glacier in France for the summer and a job as a shaper in a snowpark in Cervinia for the winter. After four years life takes me home: for seven years I work as an agent in the world of aesthetics. I feel that it is not enough for me and with a partner I embark on a new adventure: a start-up that deals with transforming vans into small campers. For the company I have followed all aspects of marketing: from graphics, to the web, to the development of images, to e-commerce, to commercial development. In a few years the company, which started with barely nothing, takes off and is recognized in the market, even outside Italy. Then comes Lucia, my first daughter. I feel that I want more time for her, for us. I leave the company, I don't have a ready idea, but I feel that the moment is the right one. I chose to cultivate what I believed in most: photography, marketing, communication. Today I stand alongside companies to build a new image together. It is a complex path, made up of multiple inputs from different directions, explorations and observations, a constant of sports, passions, books, images, design that shapes my thoughts in a here and now in constant movement. -
A quale fotografia da te scattata sei più legato?
- Si tratta di uno scatto del 2016. Ero in una piccola isola della Thailandia, con me c’erano mia moglie Linda, mia figlia Lucia, che allora aveva 2 anni e mezzo, e un’amica. Tre zaini in totale e uno conteneva Lucia. Un pomeriggio decido di andare a vedere un villaggio di pescatori di cui avevo sentito parlare. Mi ritrovo davanti un vero villaggio di pescatori, uno di quei villaggi con le palafitte e le barche sgangherate. Decido che la mattina dopo mi sarei alzato presto per vedere i pescatori rientrare, e così accadde. Salgo sullo scooter e prendo la strada per rientrare ma scorgo una baia, giro lo scooter, arrivo e ci siamo io e un pescatore con la sua piccola barca che sta rientrando. Il sole sta sorgendo, la luce è perfetta. Mi fermo, scatto delle foto, mi guardo attorno, ringrazio e rientro dalla mia famiglia. È stato un momento intenso, mi sono sentito vivo e in piena armonia con tutto ciò che mi circondava. -
Which of your photos are you most attached to?
- This is a shot from 2016. I was in a small island in Thailand, with me was my wife Linda, my daughter Lucia who was then 2 and a half years old, and a friend. Three backpacks in total and one contained Lucia. One afternoon I decide to go and see a fishing village that I have heard of. I find myself in front of a real fishing village, one of those villages with stilts and ramshackle boats. I decide that the next morning I would get up early to see the fishermen come back, and so it happened. I get on the scooter and take the road to return but I see a bay, ride the scooter, arrive and there is me and a fisherman with his small boat that is returning. The sun is rising, the light is perfect. I stop, take photos, look around, thank you and return to my family. It was an intense moment, I felt alive and in full harmony with everything around me. -
Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri?
- Navigo a vista, preferisco lasciarmi sorprendere. Come professionista, l’ambizione è quello di essere in continua formazione, alla ricerca di progetti stimolanti e in equilibrio tra lavoro, famiglia e persona. Come appassionato di corsa, sto preparando una maratona, la mia prima maratona. Qualcuno vuole correre con me? -
What are your future plans?
- I surf on sight, I prefer to be surprised. As a professional, the ambition is to be in continuous training, looking for stimulating projects and in balance between work, family and person. As a running enthusiast, I am preparing a marathon, my first marathon. Anyone want to run with me? -
