Il passato è avanguardia e lo dimostra un calzolaio divo tra i divi

I divi, tra i designer di moda? Ovviamente. Un esempio su tutti, anche se non proprio conosciuto in epoca contemporanea è André Perugia (1893-1977), un calzolaio francese. È infatti ritenuta una fra le prime stelle del settore a livello europeo. Di origine italiana comincia il suo percorso nel mondo degli accessori artigianali nel negozio del padre, distinguendosi rapidamente per la spiccata creatività. Nello stesso periodo lo nota colei che all’epoca era la proprietaria de Le Negresco, il più famoso e lussuoso albergo di Nizza, al 37, Promenade des Anglais, a farlo conoscere alla buona società e a decretarne l’iniziale successo. Del resto l’hotel ha lanciato e affermato carriere di altri divi, tra cui Louis Armstrong, Grace Kelly, Cary Grant, Alfred Hitchcock, Johnny Halliday, i Beatles, Sting, Prince, Micheal Jackson, Elton John, Madonna e Salvador Dalí, che soggiornò più volte nell'albergo insieme al suo ghepardo da compagnia.

Un modello da sera di André Perugia

He is in fact considered one of the first stars of european footwear. Of italian origin, he began his career in artisan fashion in his father's shop, quickly distinguishing himself for his marked creativity. In the same period, the woman who at the time was the owner of Le Negresco, the most famous and luxurious hotel in Nice, at 37, Promenade des Anglais, noticed him, making him known to good society and decreeing his initial success. Moreover, the hotel has launched and affirmed the careers of other stars, including Louis Armstrong, Grace Kelly, Cary Grant, Alfred Hitchcock, Johnny Halliday, the Beatles, Sting, Prince, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Madonna and Salvador Dalí, who he stayed several times in the hotel together with his pet cheetha.

1920, Parigi. È nella Ville Lumière che André Perugia si trasferisce. Ed è lì che decide di aprire il suo atelier in Faubourg Saint-Honoré, iniziando a collaborare con i couturier di moda più famosi, in particolare con Paul Poiret.

Dettagli come tacchi alti e una spiccata dote di accostare materiali insoliti come daino e capretto, pelle e seta, lo fanno emergere tra tutti gli altri calzolai dell’epoca oltre che dargli la possibilità di imbastire modelli scultura ispirati a Picasso e a Braque per Charles Jourdan. È negli anni ’50, con Franµois Villon, che abbandona la calzatura made-to-mesure e si lancia nella produzione in serie, fondando così la propria maison battezzata Perugia Boutique. Una scelta che purtroppo lo porta in breve tempo al fallimento.

Il passato non si cancella, banalmente. Nemmeno quello del creatore di scarpe francese, oggi ammirato e punto di riferimento per designer, appassionati e amanti della storia della moda. Le calzature eleganti e innovative di André Perugia gli hanno fatto guadagnare un posto tra i migliori calzolai del ventre secolo. Grazie alle collaborazioni con molti dei più noti couturier per oltre sessant'anni. Oltre a Poiret, Elsa Schiaparelli, specialmente negli anni '30.  Definito “un innovatore su tutti i fronti”, per lo stile, la tecnica costruttiva e l’utilizzo di materiali spesso inconsueti, specialmente per i modelli da sera, spesso  emblemi del design progressivo e dell'artigianalità per cui Perugia è conosciuto. È avanguardia fino alla fine del suo successo, talvolta provocando anche qualche scandalo. Come quando realizza dei sandali aperti, certamente sconvenienti all’epoca. Un genio da ricordare.
