È di poche parole Daria D’Ambrosio. La stilista, nata nel 1990 ad Airola in provincia di Benevento, punteggia con parsimonia la sua moda, l’estetica attraverso cui la esprime e gli strumenti di cui si avvale. Poco importa in ogni caso, se gli abiti da lei realizzati sono la sintesi di un’acerba perfezione, per via della sua giovane età, e, al tempo stesso, l’archetipo del suo futuro. Sono pochi, infatti, i designer alle prime armi i quali, una volta usciti dal percorso formativo, nel suo caso presso l’istituto Polimoda di Firenze, riescono a costruire sin dall’esordio la loro traccia stilistica, il loro vocabolario, la loro firma. Basta osservare e analizzare Puritatem, la prima collezione ufficiale di D’Ambrosio, e l’ultima Aurum Auris: il codice utilizzato è il medesimo, proveniente dal sentimento della loro autrice, imbastito, al contempo, di elementi eterogenei, per raccontare di volta in volta una storia differente. Quella della creatrice, la racconta lei stessa qui, in questa nostra conversazione.
Daria D'Ambrosio is a person of a few words. The fashion designer, born in 1990 in Airola in the province of Benevento, sparingly punctuates her fashion, the aesthetics through which she expresses it and the tools she uses. It matters little in any case, if the clothes she made are the synthesis of an unripe perfection, because of her young age, and, at the same time, the archetype of her future. In fact, there are few novice designers who, once they have left the training program, in her case at the Polimoda institute in Florence, are able to build their stylistic trace, their vocabulary, their signature right from the outset. Just observe and analyze Puritatem, the first official D'Ambrosio’s collection, and the last Aurum Auris: the code used is the same, coming from the feeling of their author, basting, at the same time, of heterogeneous elements, to tell from time to time time a different story. That of the creator, she tells her here, in our conversation.
Daria, con quali obiettivi hai fondato nel 2016 il tuo eponimo brand?
- Sono ormai tre anni che ho iniziato questo mio progetto legato alla moda, in cui ho sempre voluto esprimere la mia creatività attraverso varie forme d’arte, per lasciar trapelare attraverso le mie creazioni quella che è la mia identità, ovvero creare e raccontare qualcosa. -
Daria, with which objectives did you set up your eponymous brand in 2016?
- For three years now I have started my project related to fashion, in which I always wanted to express my creativity through various forms of art, to let leaked through my creations what is my identity, or create and tell something . -

Facciamo un passo indietro. Prima di dare vita a Daria D’Ambrosio, hai studiato presso l’istituto Polimoda. Come unisci l’aspetto creativo, più impulsivo, a quello tecnico, maggiormente legato alla pratica?
- In realtà, per quanto mi riguarda, sono entrambi aspetti legati alla fase creativa per lo sviluppo di una collezione. -
Let's take a step back. Before giving life to Daria D'Ambrosio, you studied at the Polimoda institute. How do you combine the creative, the most impulsive, to the technical aspect, more connected to the practice?
- Actually, as far as I'm concerned, both are aspects related to the creative phase for the development of a collection. -
A tale proposito, ogni collezione è imbastita nel nostro paese: cosa significa per te realizzare un prodotto interamente made in Italy?
- Significa innanzitutto mettersi alla ricerca di materiali di ottima qualità, la maggior parte delle rifiniture che contraddistinguono un prodotto made in Italy, poi, devono essere fatte a mano, inoltre, ed è ovviamente inutile dirlo, tutti i prodotti devono essere italiani. -
In this regard, each collection is basted in our country: what does it mean for you to make a product entirely made in Italy?
- It means first of all to look for high quality materials, most of the finishes that distinguish a product made in Italy, then, must be done by hand, moreover, and it is obviously useless to say, all products must be Italian. -

A proposito, le tue origini campane in che modo influenzano la nascita delle tue creazioni?
- Le mie origini mi spingono spesso a concentrarmi sulle iconografie religiose. Diciamo che esse sono un mondo che mi affascina particolarmente: il sacro, la fede, così come anche i conventi e le chiese rappresentano per me il mistero. Quest’ultimo mi induce a essere curiosa, ed enfatizza la voglia di scoprire gli elementi che si celano dietro di loro. -
By the way, your Campania origins how do they influence the birth of your creations?
- My origins often push me to concentrate on religious iconography. Let's say that they are a world that particularly fascinates me: the sacred, the faith, as well as the convents and the churches represent for me the mystery. The latter leads me to be curious, and emphasizes the desire to discover the elements that lie behind them. -
Tra i vari aspetti della produzione, una delle specifiche che differenzia i tuoi capi, è la lavorazione del drappeggio. Come mai questa scelta e, in ultimo, da dove deriva?
- Il primo passo dopo la ricerca e i disegni è proprio quello del drappeggio, perché sento l’esigenza di vedere in tre dimensioni quello che poco prima ho trasferito su un foglio. Si tratta di una delle tecniche che più mi coinvolge in quanto mi aiuta a dare forme e volumi che probabilmente non riuscirei mai a pensare con il solo aiuto della matita. -
Among the various aspects of production, one of the specifications that differentiates your garments is the processing of drapery. Why this choice and, ultimately, where does it come from?
- The first step after the research and the drawings is just that of drapery, because I feel the need to see in three dimensions what I have recently transferred to a piece of paper. This is one of the techniques that involves me the most as it helps me to give shapes and volumes that I probably would never be able to think with the help of a pencil. -

Quando esprimi per immagini le tue creazioni, chiami importanti nomi della fotografia contemporanea, da Monia Merlo al duo molto in voga Gioconda & August, autori che hanno interpretato la tua ultima collezione Aurum Auris. Con quali criteri li scegli e come interagite durante lo shooting?
- La scelta del fotografo credo sia uno degli aspetti più importanti. Essa avviene in base alla capacità che hanno di valorizzare i miei capi. -
When expressing your creations in pictures, call important names in contemporary photography, from Monia Merlo to the very popular duo Gioconda & August, authors who have interpreted your latest Aurum Auris collection. With which criteria do you choose them and how do you interact during the shooting?
- The choice of the photographer I think is one of the most important aspects. It is based on the ability they have to enhance my garments. -

- Nasce da un sogno, ne ho cercato il significato e, alla fine, ho pensato di rappresentarlo sotto la forma di abiti. -
Tell me about Aurum Auris, how was it born?
- It was born from a dream, I looked for the meaning and, in the end, I thought to represent it in the form of clothes. -

Quali sono i tuoi progetti per il futuro?
- Ho ancora tanto da imparare. Per il momento, mi piacerebbe poter lavorare per qualche brand e fare un pò di esperienza. -
What are your plans for the future?
- I still have a lot to learn. For the moment, I would like to work for some brands and get some experience. -
