Molti hanno in mente la scena della fabbrica nel film Tempi Moderni di Charlie Chaplin. Le sequenze esprimono l’alienazione data dal lavoro meccanico, ripetitivo. Sono gli anni Trenta e il mondo si appresta a vivere un’anteprima di quello che è oggi, dominato dal potere delle imprese della Sillicon Valley e dalle loro scoperte, come i social network.
Le invenzioni di Zuckerberg & co hanno sostituito gli effetti dati dal rullo di produzione di Chaplin con la tecnologia, quella in grado di tenere l’uomo a fissare uno schermo per ore, mentre chatta o legge notizie.
E la vita reale? A porsi la domanda è Sebastiano Leddi fondatore di Perimetro, un nuovo progetto editoriale online e cartaceo nato a Milano, per raccontare la città, fatta di persone e cose da fare, lasciando fuori per un momento - magari il tempo di leggere un articolo - il mondo virtuale.
Many have in mind the factory scene in Charlie Chaplin's film Modern Times. The sequences express the alienation given by the mechanical, repetitive work. It is the thirties and the world is preparing to live a preview of what it is today, dominated by the power of Sillicon Valley companies and their discoveries, such as social networks.
Zuckerberg & co's inventions have replaced the effects of Chaplin's production roll with technology, the one that keeps man staring at a screen for hours while chatting or reading news.
And real life? To ask the question is Sebastiano Leddi founder of Perimetro, a new online and paper publishing project born in Milan, to tell the city, made of people and things to do, leaving out for a moment - maybe the time to read an article - the virtual world.

Ristoratori, artisti, artigiani, librai e molti altri sono i volti raccontati e ritratti da Perimetro, anche per il mensile cartaceo di soli dodici numeri da collezione e in edizione limitata di duecento copie che, unite, andranno a comporre un unico libro.

Sono le storie, realizzate con il contributo di BASE Milano, tutte diverse tra loro; come quella dell’architetto Fabio Novembre, di Nicola Valentini - cuoco e proprietario insieme alla moglie Rosa e al figlio Davide - del ristornate tarantino Mieru Mieru sui Navigli - e Lola Lupelli, scolara.
Donald Gjoka intervista Queen Vivien, svizzere e proprietaria del salone di acconciature afro Triangolo della Moda, in Via Melzo 28. Lei è una di quelle persone entusiaste della metropoli che la ospita ormai da parecchi anni, dopo un vissuto negli Stati Uniti d’America. Descrive Milano come un luogo rinato dopo Expo e dice che qui «incontri tutte le razze.»
Between the pages there are historical places like the Bar Basso, in Via Plinio 39, whose legend has it that the famous drink Negroni Sbagliato was invented there; or meet the lives of the present, coming also from other cities and regions of Italy, such as Puglia, the protagonist of the reportage Milanes del tac, ancora pugliesi a Milano. These are the stories, created with the contribution of BASE Milano, all different from each other; like that of architect Fabio Novembre, of Nicola Valentini - chef and owner together with his wife Rosa and his son Davide - of the Tarantino restaurant Mieru Mieru sui Navigli - and Lola Lupelli, a schoolgirl.

Nonostante sia un progetto patinato e strettamente milanese per molti aspetti, Perimetro punta all’inclusione, non solo accogliendo artisti e firme di altre zone o paesi, ma anche realizzando una rubrica ad hoc, intitolata Fuoriperimetro. Nello spazio vengono pubblicate cronache oltre frontiera, documentate dagli scatti di fotografi internazionali. È il caso di Kingsley Zah, le cui immagini in bianco e nero ritraenti i partecipanti del Notting Hill Carnival di Londra, tenutosi il 27 agosto 2018, sono scelte per via del loro sapere raccontare un evento culturale nato sessant’anni prima, per manifestare contro la discriminazione razziale «quando un gruppo di 400 giovani bianchi, i cosiddetti Teddy Boys, di destra e dichiaratamente razzisti, attaccò le case degli abitanti caraibici del quartiere.» Scrive Oscar Bessino, nel testo che accompagna il portfolio.
Despite being a glossy and tightly Milanese project in many respects, Perimetro aims at inclusion, not only by welcoming artists and signatures from other areas or countries, but also by creating an ad hoc heading, called Fuoriperimetro. In the space are published chronicles across the border, documented by the shots of international photographers. This is the case of Kingsley Zah, whose black and white images depicting the participants of the Notting Hill Carnival in London, held on 27 August 2018, are chosen because of their knowledge to tell a cultural event born sixty years earlier, to demonstrate against racial discrimination «when a group of 400 young white people, the so-called Teddy Boys, right-wing and openly racist, attacked the homes of the neighborhood's Caribbean inhabitants.» Oscar Bessino writes in the text accompanying the portfolio.

Rimane comunque Milano la protagonista. E non solo a parole e immagini. Il magazine si propone anche come un progetto in grado di organizzare eventi e incontri. Uno di questi si è tenuto il 19 dicembre presso lo studio della fotografa Margherita Chiarva, dove è stato possibile per i visitatori, oltre che parlare con l’artista ed eventualmente acquistare le sue opere, partecipare al lancio del format dal titolo A day in a life, in cui Chiarva ritrae per un giorno intero i momenti di alcune persone integrate nell’ambiente culturale. La prima ospite della rubrica è stata Paquita Gordon, dj internazionale nota soprattutto per partecipare ad eventi come il Terraforma Experimental and Sustainable Music Festival e di suonare al Club Plastic.
However, the protagonist remains Milan. And not just in words and images. The magazine is also proposed as a project able to organize events and meetings. One of these was held on December 19 at the studio of the photographer Margherita Chiarva, where it was possible for visitors, as well as talking with the artist and possibly buy her works, to participate at the launch of the format entitled A day in a life, in which Chiarva portrays the moments of some people integrated into the cultural environment for a whole day. The first guest in the column was Paquita Gordon, an international dj known above all for participating in events such as the Terraforma Experimental and Sustainable Music Festival and playing at Club Plastic.

Il 31 gennaio 2019 viene presentato all’Elita Bar sui Navigli il numero 4 di Perimentro, come di consueto. Tra i tanti ospiti uno ha attirato più di tutti l’attenzione: l’ex sindaco della città Giuliano Pisapia. La sua presenza non è casuale, dato che all’interno del cartaceo in un racconto per immagini, intitolato Miracolo a Milano, è fotografata da Aziza Vasco una giornata per lui molto particolare: il 30 maggio 2011, quando Pisapia diventava primo cittadino.
On January 31, 2019, the number 4 of Perimentro was presented to the Elita Bar in the Navigli, as usual. Among the many guests one attracted the most attention: the former mayor of the city Giuliano Pisapia. His presence is not casual, given that within the paper, in a story through images entitled Miracolo a Milano, is photographed by Aziza Vasco a very special day for him: May 30, 2011, when Pisapia became the first citizen.

«Sempre più viviamo sotto il segno di Hermes, dio della porta, della soglia della città, ma anche dei crocevia, degli incroci.» Le parole di Marc Augé, antropologo e scrittore francese, sono il sottinteso del progetto di Leddi. Ma esse sembrano suggerire un contenuto, un messaggio più ampio: spostatevi, muovetevi e poi, quando ritornate nella vostra area di sicurezza quella che conoscete bene e in cui vi sentite a vostro agio, inserite in essa gli elementi che avete preso da fuori, fateli vostri e, con essi, costruite un racconto.
«More and more we live under the sign of Hermes, god of the door, of the threshold of the city, but also of the crossroads, of intersections.» The words by Marc Augé, anthropologist and French writer, are the implication of Leddi's project. But they seem to suggest a content, a broader message: move, move and then, when you return to your confort zone, what you know well and where you feel comfortable, insert the elements you have taken from outside, make them yours and, with them, build a story.
