Elisabetta Delogu risponde al telefono contenta di rappresentare con il suo progetto di abbigliamento da sposa e di friulane un atelier d’eccellenza della sua terra, la Sardegna. Ed è proprio sull’isola che, attraverso una macchina da cucire, tanta passione, un grande rispetto per la cultura del luogo e un amore smisurato per l’arte, realizza i suoi capi. Le furlane - un altro nome per definire le tipiche calzature nate in Friuli e ora di tendenza in tutta Italia (e non solo) - sono arrivare un giorno di un anno fa, quasi per caso e vengono prodotte dagli artigiani locali, rispettando i dettami estetici della stilista, dati in primis dai broccati e da una certa crisalide. Lo scopo di tutto ciò? La bellezza.

Furlane - another name to define the typical footwear born in Friuli and now trendy throughout Italy (and beyond) - arrived one day a year ago, almost by chance and are produced by local artisans, respecting the aesthetic dictates. of the designer, given primarily by brocades and a certain chrysalis. The purpose of all this? Beauty.

Elisabetta, perché le friulane?

- Le friulane sono capitate un giorno, per caso. Mi è sono state proposte come idea da un conoscente, il quale aveva un’azienda di scarpe molto prestigiosa. Mi ha detto: perché non le realizzi? Mi ha consigliato dei produttori molto bravi, e, inizialmente, di farle come cadeaux per le spose. L’idea però non mi convinceva del tutto. C’ho pensato su un po’ e alla fine ho detto di sì, a condizione che i tessuti fossero degli splendidi broccati in panna, celeste e verde, fornendo quindi il tessuto. Abbiamo realizzato così i primi modelli, tra friulane e sabot. Il packaging prevede un sacchetto in velluto, con laccio per chiuderle. Incredibilmente, hanno spopolato, ed è un progetto nato solo un anno fa. -

Elisabetta, why the friulane?

- The friulane happened to be one day, by chance. They were proposed to me as an idea by an acquaintance, who had a very prestigious shoe company. He said to me: why don't you make them? He advised me some very good producers, and, initially, to make them as cadeaux for brides. The idea, however, did not fully convince me. I thought about it for a while and in the end I said yes, provided that the fabrics were beautiful brocades in cream, light blue and green, thus providing the fabric. We thus created the first models, between friulane and sabot. The packaging includes a velvet bag, with a drawstring to close them. Incredibly, they have depopulated, and it is a project born only a year ago. -

Quando hai intuito che era il momento giusto?

- Quando ho capito che poteva essere un elemento in accordanza con gli abiti, da indossare prima e dopo la cerimonia. -

When did you know it was the right time?

- When I realized that it could be an element in harmony with the clothes, to wear before and after the ceremony. -

Durante quindi non le consiglieresti?

- No, direi di no. Purtroppo oggi usano spesso le sneakers come “intermezzo”, trovo che le friulane siano molto più eleganti. Pensa che sono nate come scarpe “povere” e invece, oggi, sono molto di classe. -

During then wouldn't you recommend them?

- No, I would say no. Unfortunately today they often use sneakers as an "interlude", I find that the friulane are much more elegant. Think that they were born as "poor" shoes and instead, today, they are very classy. -

Sono di gran moda al momento, raccontaci come mai le tue sono uniche.

- Sono uniche perché prima di tutto il tessuto non è replicato in modo seriale, ovvero la scarpa destra e sinistra non sono mai identiche. Il broccato decorato nel mio caso non è mai uguale, ovviamente c’è una continuità tra una scarpa e l’altra. Non sono totalmente diverse. E poi, come ti dicevo, il sacchettino è realizzato interamente a mano in Italia. Infine la scarpa è tutta decorata all’interno. -

- They are unique because first of all the fabric is not replicated in a serial way, that is, the left and right shoes are never identical. In my case, decorated brocade is never the same, obviously there is a continuity between one shoe and another. They are not totally different. And then, as I told you, the bag is made entirely by hand in Italy. Finally, the shoe is all decorated on the inside. -

Perché le hai chiamate Crisalide?

- Un po’ per il suono che produce la parola e poi per una visione: la crisalide è un cambiamento. La farfalla che produce la seta, un tessuto prezioso. La metamorfosi da lombrico a farfalla: una vita breve ma leggera, colorata e creatrice di qualcosa di unico. -

Why did you call them Crisalide?

- A little for the sound that the word produces and then for a vision: the chrysalis is a change. The butterfly that produces silk, a precious fabric. The metamorphosis from earthworm to butterfly: a short but light life, colorful and creator of something unique. -

Oltre alle tipiche scarpe realizzi anche abiti da sposa: come le vedi abbinate a una delle tue creazioni, fuori dal contesto del matrimonio?

- Guarda le ho pensate per la linea Crisalide d’abbigliamento, senza bottoni o cerniere. Abiti molto leggeri, con plissettature e tessuti di viscosa. Le donne che li indossano sembrano delle farfalle. Li ho pensati assieme alle friulane, anzi, sono nati prima loro a dire la verità. -

In addition to the typical shoes you also make wedding dresses: how do you see them combined with one of your creations, out of the wedding context?

- Look, I designed them for the Crisalide clothing line, without buttons or zippers. Very light dresses, with pleats and viscose fabrics. The women who wear them look like butterflies. I thought of them together with the friulane, indeed, they were born first to tell the truth. -

Quindi non è vero che le tue calzature non possono accordarsi con abiti da sposa?

- (Ride, ndr). Con questa collezione certamente sì. Sono perfetti anche come abiti da sera. Molto eterei. -

So it’s not true that your footwear can't match wedding dresses?

- (She laughs, ed). With this collection certainly yes. They are also perfect as evening dresses. Very ethereal. -

In comune hanno te del resto, grande appassionata e studiosa di pittura. Quali sono gli artisti a cui t’ispiri?

- La pittura era anche il mio lavoro. Con il tempo capisci e fai delle scelte che ti portano a intraprendere strade un po’ diverse. Non ho dei pittori prediletti, credo che l’arte vada apprezzata per ogni periodo storico. Certamente i preraffaelliti, con Dante Gabriel Rossetti, sono i miei punti di riferimento, poi Artemisia Gentileschi oppure William Blake, il quale era sia poeta che pittore. -

What they have in common is you, a great art lover and former painting student. What are the artists that inspire you?

- Painting was also my job. Over time, you understand and make choices that lead you to take somewhat different paths. I have no favorite painters, I believe that art should be appreciated for any historical period. Certainly the Pre-Raphaelites, with Dante Gabriel Rossetti, are my points of reference, then Artemisia Gentileschi or William Blake, who was both a poet and a painter. -

Anche la Sardegna è la tua musa?

- Certamente. Vivendoci, ne traggo sempre qualcosa. Credo che le contaminazioni siano una qualità aggiunta. È un’isola ricca di cultura, sia per quanto riguarda l’arte in generale che l’abbigliamento: tutte le dominazioni che abbiamo avuto hanno arricchito il nostro piccolo mondo. Il broccato, ad esempio, è giunto a noi grazie ai monaci spagnoli che hanno portato il fiore di gelso, da cui la farfalla, guarda caso, produce il baco da seta, quindi la crisalide. Rispetto al costume abbiamo una grandissima cultura. -

Is Sardinia your muse too?

- Of course. Living in it, I always get something out of it. I believe that contaminations are an added quality. It is an island rich in culture, both in terms of art in general and clothing: all the dominations we have had enriched our little world. Brocade, for example, has come to us thanks to the spanish monks who brought the mulberry flower, from which the butterfly, coincidentally, produces the silkworm, then the chrysalis. Compared to the costume we have a great culture. -

Ti ricordi il primo abito da sposa che hai realizzato?

- Ricordo quello che ho venduto più che altro: un abito in mikado con bustino, avevo iniziato a tagliare il tessuto, cucendo direttamente i decori, come se li disegnassi. Grazie al mikado rimane la trasparenza e a mano, di nuovo, andavo a inserire gli Swarovski. Niente plastica. Mi ha portato fortuna. -

Do you remember the first wedding dress you made?

- I remember what I sold mostly: a mikado dress with bustier, I started cutting the fabric, sewing the decorations directly, as if I were drawing them. Thanks to the mikado the transparency remains and by hand, again, I went to insert the Swarovski crystals. No plastic. It brought me luck. -

Che siano abiti da sposa o scarpe alla fine è il bello che vai cercando. Domanda difficile: che cos’è per te la bellezza?

- È una domanda semplice, in realtà, ma con tante sfumature. La bellezza è ciò che mi fa stare bene. Ho la fortuna di poter lavorare sugli abiti e le friulane, qualcosa di tattile, che puoi indossare. E poi la bellezza è anche un film, un luogo inaspettato. Quando inizio a lavorare, in qualche modo immagino di trasferirla, tramutarla per come la vedo io sul vestito. Spero che le mie clienti possano percepirlo a loro volta. La bellezza muta, in base alla nostra conoscenza ed esperienza. È necessaria per la sopravvivenza. -

Whether it's wedding dresses or shoes, in the end, that’s beauty you are looking for. Difficult question: what is beauty for you?

- It's a simple question, actually, but with many nuances. Beauty is what makes me feel good. I am fortunate to be able to work on clothes and friulane, something tactile, which you can wear. And then beauty is also a film, an unexpected place. When I start working, I somehow imagine transferring her, transforming her into the way I see it on her dress. I hope my clients can feel it too. Beauty changes, based on our knowledge and experience. It is necessary for survival. -
