È uscito ieri in libreria l’opera prima di Fulvio Ervas (1955) dedicata ai lettori più giovani. Dai 10 anni in su. Pubblico non ancora sperimentato dallo scrittore di Musile di Piave (VE). Ed è proprio questo “in su” su cui bisogna riflettere. Sì, perché sebbene Il Convegno dei Ragazzi che Salvano il Mondo (Marcos y Marcos) sia un racconto scritto con un linguaggio semplice, chiaro e scorrevole, il suo contenuto è spiccatamente maturo, nonché estremamente contemporaneo.
The first work by Fulvio Ervas (1955) dedicated to younger readers was published yesterday in the bookshop. From 10 years upwards. Public not yet tested by the writer from Musile di Piave (VE). And it is precisely this "upwards" on which we must reflect. Yes, because although Il Convegno dei Ragazzi che Salvano il Mondo (Marcos y Marcos) is a story written with a simple, clear and fluent language, its content is distinctly mature, as well as extremely contemporary.
La trama vede un gruppo di giovani ambientalisti combattere pacificamente il terribile Mister Daniel Douglas Tossic, leader dell’esercito dei Buttacarte. Congregazione, la quale non crede affatto che il mondo debba essere salvato dalla plastica, depurato da questo terribile elemento. Infatti dalle prime righe è ben chiara la mentalità del caporione, sin da quando gli si presenta davanti una tabella piena di numeri, ed esclama: «Sembra che ci sia un sacco di plastica nel mare! (…) Benissimo, significa che la plastica va sempre alla grande.» Peccato che a combatterlo ci siano Zack, persino la sua sorellina di 4 anni Momy, che si arrabbia quando le si dice che è troppo piccola per essere un’attivista, Cleo, degli adulti saggi, e soprattutto disillusi, i quali li convincono a fare una sorta di marcia, un convegno appunto, per protestare contro il consumo spasmodico di questo materiale. C’è poi Irma, loro coetanea, che non è tanto convinta di parteciparvi, quasi fino alla fine della storia. Quando il tenero Zack le domanda se vuole le interessa andarci, lei gli risponde: «Senti, bello, io faccio quel che mi pare!» Ognuno di loro ha le proprie passioni e personalità, forti e deliziosamente insolite – Cleo ha un’iguana che si addormenta solo in caso di pericolo -.
The plot sees a group of young environmentalists peacefully fight the terrible Mr. Daniel Douglas Tossic, leader of the Buttacarte army. Congregation, which does not believe at all that the world must be saved from plastic, purified of this terrible element. In fact from the first lines the mentality of the caporione is very clear, ever since a table full of numbers appears before him, and he exclaims: «It seems that there is a plastic bag in the sea! (...) Very well, it means that the plastic is always great.» Too bad, because there is Zack, even his 4-year-old sister Momy, who gets angry when she is told she is too young to be an activist, Cleo, and wise, and above all disillusioned, adults who convince them to make a sort of march, a conference precisely, to protest against the spasmodic consumption of this material. Then there is Irma, their contemporary, who is not so convinced that she is participating, almost until the end of the story. When the tender Zack asks her if she wants to care to go there, she replies: «Look, handsome, I do what I want!» Each of them has his own strong and deliciously unusual passions and personalities - Cleo has an iguana that falls asleep only in case of danger -.
Non volendo anticipare tutto, è impossibile dire se i Buttacarte di Tossic, assecondato dal suo braccio destro Regis Regis - molto somigliante, caratterialmente, al maggiordomo del temibile Montgomery Burns nei Simpson, il fragile Waylon Smithers – l’avrà vinta sul gruppo di giovani attivisti, provenienti da ottocentosei paesi, i quali partono in treno a piedi o in bicicletta, ovviamente, per recarsi al convegno. Quello che è facile intuire, però, è che il climate change è giunto perfino nelle menti creative degli scrittori. Del resto non poteva che essere così per Ervas, il quale non solo produce romanzi come Se ti abbraccio non avere paura, da cui il regista Gabriele Salvatores ha tratto un film, ma vive in maniera armonica con la natura. La sua biografia, infatti, narra che l’autore veneziano si cibi delle verdure coltivate nell’orto di casa sua.

His biography, in fact, tells that the Venetian author eats vegetables grown in his home garden.
Il racconto ha il pregio di non inserirsi tra quei saggi tristi ed elaborati in un linguaggio accademico. Piuttosto è un manifesto sotto forma di intreccio, il quale esprime la convinzione che il futuro è dei giovani e da loro sarà guidato. In un certo senso è ottimista come storia, nonostante si affacci inevitabilmente alla cronaca di tutti i giorni, a personaggi come la sedicenne svedese Greta Thunberg, la quale cerca di far il possibile per vivere in modo del tutto sostenibile, ispirando persone di tutto il mondo, giovani e adulti. Esattamente come intende fare Il Convegno dei Ragazzi che Salvano il Mondo di Fulvio Ervas, ma con un po' più di ironia e fantasia.
The story has the merit of not being inserted among those sad and elaborate essays in an academic language. Rather it is a manifesto in the form of a plot, which expresses the conviction that the future belongs to young people and will be guided by them. In a certain sense, it is optimistic as a story, although it inevitably faces everyday news, such as the Swedish sixteen year old Greta Thunberg, who tries to do everything possible to live in a totally sustainable way, inspiring people all over the world , young and adults. Exactly how it intends to do Il Convegno dei Ragazzi che Salvano il Mondo by Fulvio Ervas, but with a little more irony and fantasy.
