"La creatività è il motore, ma per creare un capo giusto, serve altro": l'Alta Moda di Apnoea

Un progetto di Alta Moda, a Napoli. Non è l’introduzione di una realtà dei primi anni del secolo scorso, bensì un brand contemporaneo, da ogni punto di vista. Anche quando muove dal cuore del saper fare abiti della città partenopea: la sartorialità. Risponde al nome di Apnoea e viene fondato nel 2017 grazie all’intuito di Pina Pirozzi ed Enzo Della Valle, anche se, come sottolinea Pina, è lei ad aver dato via a un percorso non privo di ostacoli (si legga alla voce Covid), ma ricco di soddisfazioni. La più importante? Quella di potersi concedere ancora di sognare, come raccontano al termine del nostro incontro.

A high fashion project in Naples. It is not the introduction of a reality from the early years of the last century, but a contemporary brand, from every point of view. Even when it comes from the heart of knowing how to make clothes in the neapolitan city: tailoring. It responds to the name of Apnoea and was founded in 2017 thanks to the intuition of Pina Pirozzi and Enzo Della Valle, even if, as Pina points out, it is she who has given way to a path that is not without obstacles (read Covid), but full of satisfactions. The most important? That of being able to still allow oneself to dream, as they tell at the end of our meeting.

Elemento base di Apnoea è la sartorialità napoletana: cosa la differenzia dalle altre?

- Oltre all’alto livello qualitativo, una caratteristica indiscussa della sartoria napoletana è l’eleganza, anche quando si tratta di capi sportivi. Eleganza che si ha soprattutto dalla disinvoltura e dalla libertà di movimento, rese possibili da capi leggeri, destrutturati. -

Basic element of Apnoea is neapolitan tailoring: what differentiates it from the others?

- In addition to the high quality level, an undisputed feature of neapolitan tailoring is elegance, even when it comes to sportswear. Elegance that comes above all from the ease and freedom of movement, made possible by light, unstructured garments. -

E voi, in cosa vi distinguete?

- Sicuramente una delle nostre caratteristiche è quella di coniugare la tradizione (della sartoria napoletana appunto) con un design di ricerca, che guarda al futuro. -

And you, how do you distinguish yourself?

- Surely one of our characteristics is to combine tradition (of neapolitan tailoring in fact) with a research design, which looks to the future. -

Ricerca estetica ispirata dall’arte: quali sono i vostri riferimenti in questo senso?

- L’arte intesa come libertà d’espressione in tutti gli ambiti. La nostra ricerca spazia dal cinema, alla street art, dalle arti decorative, alle subculture. Sicuramente hanno avuto una grande influenza sul nostro gusto il design giapponese e la street art degli anni Novanta e Duemila. -

Aesthetic research inspired by art: what are your references in this sense?

- Art understood as freedom of expression in all areas. Our research ranges from cinema, to street art, from decorative arts to subcultures. Certainly japanese design and street art from the 1990s and 2000s had a great influence on our taste. -

Com’è possibile applicare concetti astratti, come minimalismo, colori che sono in grado di esprimere una poetica, all’interno di vestiti, pratici, verosimilmente, per tutti i giorni?

- Molto spesso ci si dimentica che creare abiti o accessori è prima di tutto un mestiere, che va studiato e poi praticato. L’esperienza è fondamentale per tradurre in modo semplice l’idea creativa in un prodotto di facile fruibilità. La creatività è il motore, ma per creare un capo giusto, c’è bisogno di conoscenza del mercato, degli usi e costumi. -

How is it possible to apply abstract concepts, such as minimalism, colors that are able to express a poetic, within clothes, practical, probably, for every day?

- Very often we forget that creating clothes or accessories is first of all a profession, which must be studied and then practiced. Experience is essential to easily translate the creative idea into an easy-to-use product. Creativity is the engine, but to create the right garment, you need knowledge of the market, customs and traditions. -

Come organizzate il lavoro a “quattro mani”?

- Nella prima parte, quella della ricerca, siamo completamente indipendenti l’uno dall’altro. I nostri mondi estetici sono molto distanti e quando iniziamo a confrontarci sicuramente è il momento più stimolante e anche delicato: è importante che l’idea di uno lasci giusto spazio a quella dell’altro. Iniziano da qui una serie di suggestioni che si concretizzano in immagini che danno il gusto di quello che poi è lo step successivo: La progettazione. Io (Pina, ndr) mi occupo della parte di design, mentre Enzo della parte grafica, anche se spesso i ruoli si sovrappongono. Insieme poi scegliamo i materiali e i bozzetti da sviluppare, mentre poi Enzo si occupa dell’acquisto e io di seguire i laboratori. -

How do you organize the "four hands" work?

- In the first part, that of research, we are completely independent of each other. Our aesthetic worlds are very distant and when we begin to confront it is certainly the most stimulating and also delicate moment: it is important that the idea of ​​one leaves the right space for that of the other. From here begins a series of suggestions that are realized in images that give the taste of what is then the next step: The design. I (Pina) take care of the design part, while Enzo of the graphic part, even if the roles often overlap. Together we then choose the materials and sketches to be developed, while Enzo then takes care of the purchase and I follow the workshops. -

A causa del Covid molti vostri colleghi si sono ridimensionati o, addirittura, hanno chiuso i battenti: voi come ve la state cavando?

- Non è stato per niente facile, anzi. Siamo stati anche noi come tanti sul punto di mollare. Ma poi abbiamo resistito e finalmente iniziamo a vedere i primi frutti, anche se c’è ancora tanta strada da fare. -

Because of the Covid, many of your colleagues have downsized or even closed their doors: how are you doing?

- It wasn't easy at all, quite the contrary. Like many of us, we were on the verge of giving up. But then we resisted and finally we begin to see the first fruits, even if there is still a long way to go. -

Come vi siete conosciuti?

- Abbiamo frequentato la stessa università, seguendo corsi distanti di pochi anni. Ma ci siamo davvero conosciuti nella nostra prima esperienza di lavoro in un’ufficio stile. Enzo si occupava della parte grafica e io ero assistente designer. -

How did you meet?

- We attended the same university, following courses a few years apart. But we really met in our first experience working in a style office. Enzo was in charge of the graphics and I was assistant designer. -

- Un atelier, la nostra prima sfilata, la linea uomo e accessori. Poco ambiziosi no? -
