Inserito nel contesto della Milano Art Week e miart, The vision through è un progetto speciale di Flavia Albu, artista visiva di base a Milano, a cura di Marta Orsola Sironi, con la collaborazione di BeAdvisors Art Departement e Golab Agency, in via Fatebenefratelli 5 (zona Brera), e propone per la prima volta nella sua completezza la serie non finita che la accompagna ormai da anni.

Inserted in the context of the Milan Art Week and miart, The vision through is a special project by Flavia Albu, visual artis based in Milano, curated by Marta Orsola Sironi, with the collaboration of BeAdvisor Art Department and Golab Agency, in via Fatebenefratelli 5 (Brera district), and proposes for the first time in its entirety the unfinished series that has accompanied it for years.

La serie delle Curtains, iniziata durante la residenza dell’artista presso la Griffin Gallery di Londra, attraversa tutta la produzione di Albu dal 2017 ad oggi, accompagnandosi agli altri cicli di ricerca. La tenda, la curtain, è metafora della pittura e indica per metonimia il supporto stesso dell’opera, la tela. Insieme a queste sono presentate altre opere di Flavia Albu, che similmente questionano le stesse dinamiche di visione.

The series of Curtains, which began during the artist's residency at the Griffin Gallery in London, runs through the entire production of Albu from 2017 to today, accompanying the other research cycles. The curtain, the curtain, is a metaphor for painting and metonymically indicates the very support of the work, the canvas. Together with these are presented other works by Flavia Albu, which similarly question the same dynamics of vision.

Nonostante l’utilizzo di media diversi, vi è un’omogeneità di fondo nella produzione di Flavia Albu. Che si tratti di pittura, video o installazioni, Flavia Albu è interessata a declinare ed esplorare gli elementi strutturali della pittura per riflettere sul dispositivo rappresentativo e sulla visione, sondandone le connotazioni. Lo sguardo di Albu e il suo velo delimitano il continuum delle cose, individuano una porzione che oscilla (citando Emilio Garroni) tra un vedere attraverso e un vedere di fronte. Il velo ne modifica l'opacità o altre categorie dicotomiche, come intenzionalità e aleatorietà, diventando a volte un filtro che rivela, a volte un sipario che annuncia una teatralizzazione dell’esperienza. L’artista lavora su questi aspetti scandagliando più genericamente i concetti di libertà e potere, per quanto rilegati al contesto del metodo e del lavoro artistico.

Despite the use of different media, there is an underlying homogeneity in Flavia Albu's production. Whether it is painting, video or installations, Flavia Albu is interested in declining and exploring the structural elements of painting to reflect on the representative device and on the vision, probing their connotations. Albu's gaze and her veil delimit the continuum of things, identify a portion that oscillates (quoting Emilio Garroni) between seeing through and seeing from the front. The veil modifies its opacity or other dichotomous categories, such as intentionality and uncertainty, sometimes becoming a filter that reveals, sometimes a curtain that announces a theatricalization of the experience. The artist works on these aspects by probing more generically the concepts of freedom and power, albeit related to the context of the method and artistic work.
