Una stilista di abiti da sposa milanese porta l'eccellenza del "su misura" italiano nel mondo

Capelli lunghi biondi, un sorriso bellissimo. Ma non è solo questo a colpire di Sofia Provera, stilista di abiti da sposa e Alta Moda milanese. Piuttosto, è la sua timidezza unita a un’importante risolutezza e consapevolezza di sé, del proprio lavoro. Quella che si chiama umiltà, vissuta però con grande entusiasmo e gioia. Non è una che si abbatte facilmente. Forse perché da sempre fa il mestiere da sempre sognato. Come i vestiti “su misura” pensati per le sue clienti con cui stabilisce una forte empatia, utile per il suo lavoro. Lo fa anche guardando al futuro, con un progetto all’avanguardia, disponibile a partire da questa settimana, che racconta quell’unione di forma e funzione imprescindibile nell’architettura come nella moda, anche quella fatta a mano. La incontriamo nel suo studio in zona San Siro.

Long blonde hair, a beautiful smile. But this is not the only thing that impresses while observing Sofia Provera, a milanese bridal and Haute Couture designer. Rather, it is her shyness combined with an important resolve and awareness of herself, of her work. What is called humility, but lived with great enthusiasm and joy. She is not one that breaks down easily. Perhaps because she has always done the job she has always dreamed of. Like the "made to measure" clothes designed for her clients with whom she establishes a strong empathy, useful for her work. She also does it looking to the future, with an avant-garde project, available starting this week, which tells of that union of form and function that is essential in architecture as in fashion, even handmade. We meet her in her studio in the San Siro area.

Sofia, da te in studio mi ha raccontato che hai sempre avuto la passione per gli abiti. Com’era il primo che hai realizzato?

- Lo conservo ancora. L’ho creato, cucito e dipinto quando avevo 15 anni. Un abito lungo in cady bianco con passamaneria in contrasto nera e argento, impreziosito da pennellate nere argentate dipinte a mano. Da lì le amiche iniziarono a chiedermi le mie creazioni per indossare i loro sogni unici e iniziò il passaparola. Nel 2017 ho registrato il marchio negli Emirati, America, Europa e dal 2018, pochi mesi dopo la mia laurea al Politecnico di Milano, ho aperto l'Atelier dove ora, insieme al mio team di Première, sarte, ricamatrici e pittrici realizziamo su misura l'abito che le clienti desiderano, sia da sposa che d'Alta Moda. Ho sempre avuto questa passione, fin da piccola. Ho ancora il biglietto di auguri di compleanno quando ero in prima elementare quando i miei compagni mi hanno regalato una piccola macchina da cucire. -

Sofia, when I first visited your studio, you told me that you have always had a passion for clothes. How was the first one you made?

- I still keep it. I created, sewed and painted it when I was 15. A long white cady dress with contrasting black and silver trimmings, embellished with hand-painted silver black brushstrokes. From there the friends started asking me for my creations to wear their unique dreams and word of mouth began. In 2017 I registered the trademark in the Emirates, America, Europe and from 2018, a few months after my graduation from the Politecnico di Milano, I opened the Atelier where now, together with my Première team, seamstresses, embroiderers and painters create tailor-made the dress that customers want, both bridal and Haute Couture. I have always had this passion, since I was a child. I still have the birthday card when I was in first grade when my classmates gave me a small sewing machine. -

Perché disegnare abiti per le spose?

- Il primo ordine di un abito da sposa è arrivato quando avevo 19 anni. È stato un percorso estremamente emozionante. Mi ha permesso di capire che volevo fare questo nella vita. La mia creatività si esprime al meglio nel creare qualcosa di elegante, importante, raffinato. Gli abiti da sera e da sposa mi lasciano uno spazio creativo che mi ispira e mi entusiasma. -

Why design dresses for brides?

- The first order for a wedding dress arrived when I was 19. It was an extremely exciting journey. It allowed me to understand that I wanted to do this in life. My creativity is best expressed in creating something elegant, important, refined. Evening and wedding dresses leave me a creative space that inspires and excites me. -

Alcuni potrebbero considerarti troppo “romantica” per il mestiere che fai. Ti consideri così?

- Se "romantica" vuol dire essere sensibile e fare il proprio lavoro col cuore e tanta passione, si lo sono. Ed è proprio forse questo che fa rendere felici le mie spose. -

Some may consider you too "romantic" for the job you do. Do you consider yourself that way?

- If “romantic” means being sensitive and doing your job with the heart and a lot of passion, yes I am. And this is perhaps what makes my brides happy. -

Eppure guardi al futuro, ti metti in gioco. Ci parli del nuovo progetto?

- La personalizzazione è il futuro, ed è il lusso del futuro. Realizzare abiti da sposa e d'Alta Moda su misura occupa diverso tempo per le prove fisiche sulla cliente e molto spesso ci spostiamo noi su Montecarlo, Lugano e Roma oppure vengono loro in Atelier da me a Milano. Ho trovato un modo per soddisfare tutte quelle clienti più lontane che desiderano l'abito esattamente come l'hanno immaginato senza dover venire fisicamente da noi. Uniamo l'eccellenza del fatto a mano e dell'alta sartorialità italiana, ricca di tradizione e competenza, con l'innovazione tecnologica di Igoodi. È un'azienda innovativa che scansiona il corpo con precisione millimetrica e ci permette di ricostruire in 3D l’avatar fisico della cliente sul quale fare poi le prove dell’abito a distanza in videochiamata. La cliente dopo essere stata scansionata sarà seguita personalmente da me in videochiamata per disegnare insieme l'abito desiderato, definendo il modello, particolari e materiali che verranno spediti come pizzi e ricami. Faremo a distanza le prove dell’abito sul corpo fisico stampato in 3D e, una volta definito il modello ed eventuali modifiche in videochiamata, verrà spedito in modo che la cliente possa indossarlo. -

Still, you look to the future, you put yourself on the line. Can you tell us about the new project?

- Personalization is the future, and it is the luxury of the future. Making tailor-made wedding and haute couture dresses takes a long time for physical tests on the client and very often we move to Montecarlo, Lugano and Rome or they come to my Atelier in Milan. I have found a way to satisfy all those more distant customers who want the dress exactly as they imagined it without having to physically come to us. We combine the excellence of handmade and high Italian tailoring, rich in tradition and competence, with the technological innovation of Igoodi. It is an innovative company that scans the body with millimeter precision and allows us to reconstruct the customer's physical avatar in 3D on which we can then test the dress remotely via video call. After being scanned, the customer will be personally followed by me in a video call to design the desired dress together, defining the model, details and materials that will be sent as lace and embroidery. We will remotely test the dress on the 3D printed physical body and, once the model and any changes have been made via video call, it will be sent so that the customer can wear it. -

Ci sono già delle clienti che l’hanno provato?

- Da un anno a questa parte abbiamo fatto diversi test per studiare tipi di scansioni, corporature e vestibilità per ottenere una precisione millimetrica e abbiamo molte clienti interessate. Il lancio è previsto proprio ora, in occasione della Settimana della Moda. -

Are there already customers who have tried it?

- For a year now we have done several tests to study types of scans, body shapes and wearability to obtain pinpoint accuracy and we have many interested customers. The launch is scheduled right now, on the occasion of the Fashion Week. -

Dal disegno a?

- Sono molto concreta. Il disegno è solo un mezzo per ricordare quello che creo con le mani, col tessuto, sul manichino. È dai materiali, dal corpo, dagli abbinamenti di forme e colori, dalla ricerca della bellezza come armonia, che nascono le mie creazioni. Esistono disegni e figurini meravigliosi ma probabilmente irrealizzabili: come cade un tessuto si vede nella realtà, ed è da qui che parto. -

From drawing to?

- I'm very concrete. Drawing is only a means to remember what I create with my hands, with the fabric, on the mannequin. It is from the materials, from the body, from the combinations of shapes and colors, from the search for beauty as harmony, that my creations are born. There are wonderful but probably unrealizable drawings and figures: how a fabric falls you can see in reality, and that's where I start. -

Gli aspetti più interessanti del tuo lavoro?

- È un lavoro molto dinamico, ricco di felicità, soddisfazioni, amore e bellezza ma anche di tanta competenza, organizzazione e precisione maniacale. Ogni giorno conosco donne che stanno per vivere dei momenti emozionanti e durante i preparativi ho la fortuna di conoscerle umanamente. Questo è un aspetto molto importante perché per creare loro l'abito perfetto devo entrare nella loro anima in modo da capire esattamente cosa vogliono, ed è da qui che si parte col progetto per il loro abito. Ed è così che le rendo felici. -

The most interesting aspects of your work?

- It is a very dynamic job, full of happiness, satisfaction, love and beauty but also of a lot of competence, organization and maniacal precision. Every day I meet women who are about to experience exciting moments and during the preparations I am lucky enough to know them humanly. This is a very important aspect because to create them the perfect dress I have to go into the soul in order to understand exactly what they want, and this is where we start with the project for their dress. And that's how I make them happy. -

Ogni sposa è diversa, immagino. Ci racconti qualche aneddoto?

- Ogni sposa ha i suoi desideri, sogni, paure ed esigenze e ogni volta ho la fortuna di entrare a contatto con donne stupende che mi aprono il loro cuore con cui sogno a occhi aperti il loro abito. Ci sarebbero tantissimi aneddoti da raccontare ma preferisco mantenere la riservatezza. Ti racconto invece dell'ultima mia stupenda cliente che si è sposata questo sabato nell'Oltrepò Pavese. Non voleva l'abito da classico ma “della vita”, da poter indossare nel suo giorno più importante e da poter rivivere. Sapevo che amava il rosa, la luce, e voleva qualcosa di speciale solo per lei. Le ho realizzato un abito ricamato totalmente a mano con un disegno estremamente raffinato con cui ci sono voluti 3 mesi di lavoro, impreziosito da perline lilla, petali di pura seta cipria e ametiste, il tutto su una base nude brillante con un ampio strascico staccabile, un vero sogno. -

Every bride is different, I guess. Can you tell us some anecdotes?

- Every bride has her wishes, dreams, fears and needs and every time I am lucky enough to come into contact with beautiful women who open their hearts to me with whom I daydream about their dress. There would be many anecdotes to tell but I prefer to keep confidential. Instead, I'll tell you about my last wonderful client who got married this Saturday in Oltrepò Pavese. She did not want the classic dress but "of life", to be able to wear on her most important day and to be able to relive. I knew he loved pink, light, and wanted something special just for her. I made her a totally hand embroidered dress with an extremely refined design with which it took 3 months of work, embellished with lilac beads, pure powder silk petals and amethysts, all on a bright nude base with a large detachable train, a real dream. -

Un consiglio per loro?

- Il giorno in cui vi sposerete sarà il giorno più bello della vostra vita, non accontentatevi ma cercate l’abito dei vostri sogni e che rispecchi la vostra essenza. Fare l'abito su misura è assolutamente questo: rendere realtà il proprio sogno. -

Any advice for them?

- The day you get married will be the best day of your life, don't settle for it but look for the dress of your dreams that reflects your essence. Making a tailored suit is absolutely this: making your dream come true. -

In generale, cosa apprezzi della moda?

- La possibilità di creare. E creare qualcosa che è interconnesso con la persona, con tutta la sua umanità e il suo vissuto. Quando vedo una mia sposa felice indossare l'abito che ha sempre sognato, mi sento realizzata. Pochi lavori, credo, possono dare soddisfazioni personali e umane così grandi. -

In general, what do you like about fashion?

- The ability to create. And to create something that is interconnected with the person, with all his humanity and his experience. When I see a happy bride of mine wearing the dress she has always dreamed of, I feel fulfilled. Few jobs, I believe, can give such great personal and human satisfaction. -

Un pensiero per il futuro.

- Una certezza e una speranza: la prima è che le donne vorranno sempre essere valorizzate al meglio, personalizzando sempre più le proprie scelte; la speranza è che la grande ricchezza artigianale italiana, famosa nel mondo, non si perda e possa essere sempre al servizio della moda intesa come arte. Il progetto tecnologico che sto lanciando rispecchia entrambe questi aspetti ed esigenze e porta l'eccellenza del "su misura" italiano ovunque nel mondo. -

A thought for the future.

- A certainty and a hope: the first is that women will always want to be valued at their best, personalizing their choices more and more; the hope is that the great Italian artisan wealth, famous all over the world, will not be lost and can always be at the service of fashion understood as art. The technological project that I am launching reflects both these aspects and needs and brings the excellence of Italian "made to measure" everywhere in the world. -
