Rappresentazione. Mai come oggi il quotidiano viene raffigurato, attraverso video, fotografie, parole. Il guaio è che la maggior parte usa lo stesso linguaggio, gli stessi codici, per raccontarlo. Gli artisti si pongono in maniera trasversale e compongono opere il cui significato è una proposta personale di nuovi vocabolari in grado di descrivere il contesto.
Representation. Never before has the daily life been portrayed, through videos, photographs and words. The trouble is that most use the same language, the same codes, to tell it. Artists place themselves transversely and compose works whose meaning is a personal proposal of new vocabularies able to describe the context.
Sabato 26 gennaio inaugura presso la galleria UNA a Piacenza la mostra SPIT or SWALLOW, bi-personale di Stefano Serretta (Genova, 1987) e Alessandro Sambini (Rovigo, 1982).
Sputa o ingoia. È la traduzione letterale in italiano del titolo dell’esposizione curata da Andrea Tinterri, la quale muove, appunto, dal concetto di représentation «riflettendo sul meccanismo e il mutamento di specifici fenomeni iconografici del nostro presente.» Spiega Tinterri.
All’interno degli spazi si alternano le opere dei due autori, diverse nel modo di comunicare e per i soggetti-oggetti rappresentati, ma accomunate dalla novità che il critico spiega risiedere in «nuove strutture linguistiche, nuovi canali, nuove scritture attraverso cui comunicare e filtrare il mondo.»
On Saturday 26th January, at the UNA gallery in Piacenza, the SPIT or SWALLOW exhibition will be inaugurated, an exhibition by Stefano Serretta (Genoa, 1987) and Alessandro Sambini (Rovigo, 1982).
The exhibition, curated by Andrea Tinterri, moves, precisely, from the concept of représentation «reflecting on the mechanism and the change of specific iconographic phenomena of our present.» Explains Tinterri.
Inside the spaces the works of the two authors alternate, different in the way of communicating and the subjects-objects represented, but united by the novelty that the critic explains to reside in «new linguistic structures, new channels, new scriptures through which to communicate and filter the world.»
Seretta prende il passato e con esso interpreta il presente. L’artista, infatti, «prosegue il suo dialogo con la Storia, l’indagine sull’icona e sulle immagini della Storia, concentrandosi su alcuni fenomeni generati dai fondamentalismi contemporanei, individuando modelli iconografici traslati direttamente dall’entertainment occidentale.» Descrive così il curatore il lavoro del genovese, il quale ora lavora e vive a Milano, città in cui consegue un master in Arti Visive e Studi Curatoriali presso la NABA nel 2013.
Sambini, conosce bene le immagini, tanto che - come scrive sul suo sito - ci lavora dal 2005, utilizzandole per esplorale il rapporto tra spettatori e lo spettacolo la fuori. Rispetto a Seretta, che estrapola dai periodi antecedenti i nostri gli ingredienti per dare un punto di vista sullo zeitgeist, l’artista veneto propone il progetto Spelling Book: «usando un algoritmo, scaricabile gratuitamente su internet, restituisce una serie di immagini (piramide, Marte, Gesù, scheletro) che non possiedono alcun riferimento con il dato reale. L’algoritmo, attraverso un suo database, elabora un’immagine plausibile, ma completamente indipendente dalla realtà. In questo modo Sambini non solo approfondisce il rapporto tra immagine e intelligenza artificiale, ma interroga l’algoritmo stesso, il suo personale database con le relative scelte e omissioni.» Conclude Andrea Tinterri.
Seretta takes the past and interprets the present with it. In fact, the artist «continues his dialogue with History, the investigation of the icon and the images of History, focusing on some phenomena generated by contemporary fundamentalisms, identifying iconographic models translated directly from Western entertainment.» The curator says on the work of the Genoese, who now works and lives in Milan, a city in which he obtained a master's degree in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies at the NABA in 2013.
Sambini knows well the images, so much so that - as he writes on his website - he has been working on it since 2005, using them to explore the relationship between spectators and spectacles outside. Compared to Seretta, who extrapolates from the past the ingredients to give a point of view on the zeitgeist, the Venetian artist proposes the Spelling Book project: «using an algorithm, downloadable for free on the internet, returns a series of images (pyramid, Mars, Jesus, skeleton) that do not have any reference with the real data. The algorithm, through its database, elaborates a plausible image, but completely independent from reality. In this way, Sambini not only delves into the relationship between image and artificial intelligence, but also questions the algorithm itself, its personal database and the relative choices and omissions.» Concludes Andrea Tinterri.
La mostra SPIT or SWALLOW sarà aperta al pubblico fino al 23 marzo 2019, in Via Sant’Antonino 33, Piacenza.
