Durante la serata di apertura del Festival del Cinema di Venezia Tilda Swinton vince il Leone d’Oro alla carriera. Un premio assegnato a nomi stellari della pellicola. Alcuni figurano come i suoi gods, come usa chiamarli, e cita anche Julie Andrews, vincitrice nel 2019. Il suo discorso, in cui ringrazia e racconta il suo amore per il cinema che equipara alla vita stessa (aka non chiamiamola carriera la sua ma vita, appunto), è forse, a oggi, uno dei momenti più memorabili della kermesse che mai come quest’anno vanta film seri e impegnati, anche politicamente. Almeno se si escludono lavori come The Duke, opera fuori concorso e decisamente ilare del regista Roger Michell (Notting Hill) con Jim Broadbent e Helen Mirren, tra i protagonisti. Nel monologo l’attrice, vestita in un elegante abito Chanel, accompagnata da una maschera realizzata dall’artista James Merry, elogia la Serenissima, il mondo del cinema. Omaggia l’attore statunitense scomparso di recente Chadwick Boseman. È visibilmente commossa.

Musa di Wes Anderson e di Luca Guadagnino, vince un premio Oscar nel 2008 per il suo ruolo di attrice non protagonista in Michael Clayton. Impegnata nel sociale, soprattutto per quanto riguarda l’educazione infantile, si presta come volto e corpo alla moda. Chanel e Haider Ackermann sono le maison predilette. Anche l’arte la conquista. Nel 1995, per conto dell’artista Cornelia Parker, si esibisce in una performance intitolata The Maybe presso la Serpentine Gallery (Londra) e il Museo Barracco di Roma. Con lo spagnolo è a Venezia per mostrare al pubblico il cortometraggio fuori concorso The Human Voice, tratto dall’opera teatrale del 1930 firmata Jean Cocteau. Un’altra prova estrema per Tilda. Almodóvar dirige il tutto in appena un mese, a causa del Covid-19. È la storia di una donna che teme di essere lasciata dall’uomo che ama dopo 4 anni di amore poiché egli non si fa sentire da 3 giorni. Una trama comune se non fosse per un telefono che, improvvisamente, squilla nel cuore della notte. È un flusso di coscienza costante in cui la protagonista è solo e unicamente la Swinton.
